(Anonymous) 2025-01-15 02:15 am (UTC)(link)That's in theory any religion that has a 'hell' though. If you are a decent person and think your loved ones, or anyone else at all, might be headed toward eternal torment, the only moral thing according to your beliefs would be to try to 'save' them through any means possible because what's worse than eternal damnation?
Lots of religious people like to pretend the concept of 'hell' doesn't exist in their system, but it does; they're just ignoring a huge important part of the religion they say they are part of.

All religions have versions. As far as I know there isn't any religion that doesn't have offshoots.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-15 02:35 am (UTC)(link)Not sure the idea that 'hell only = cease to exist' changes anything, unfortunately. If everyone has the chance for eternal life but may die a 'permanent death' then you're still morally obligated to save as many people as possible. 'I don't have to try to save them, they only die forever if I don't' changes the factor of badness, but not what the moral imperative would be for a person who considers themselves good.
You wouldn't look at someone about to jump off a cliff and go 'it's okay, they only die forever, that's not such a bad fate'

(Anonymous) 2025-01-15 03:40 am (UTC)(link)Religious people are human. They are fallible. No matter how *fervently* they believe anything, they are not guaranteed to be right. They fail in their actual obligation to treat other human beings with respect and decency when they try, by hook or crook, to get everyone to agree with their beliefs.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-15 06:26 am (UTC)(link)Lots of religious people ignore that part of religion though because that's inconvenient.
