da but I'm guessing because they're POC.

Not sure if it's racist but it's definitely not... nice? (Yes, I'm aware some folks do the weirdest shit to their bodies on purpose, and often for a reaction. But personally, I've been pulling away from bashing people's looks for a while now, even if some argue they're the type that deserves a good bashing. Just comes off as mean-spirited.)

I'm coming around to being find with some mean-spiritedness. How you present yourself matters. It says something about how you see yourself, how you'd like other people to see you, what you think is appropriate in certain social settings, etc. It can communicate a lack of respect, for yourself and/or for others (wearing jeans to a wedding, or in a more extreme case that I was subjected to, wearing a pornographic T-shirt to the bank). The idea that we "shouldn't judge" ignores that we all can't help but judge, but also the fact that there's something...self-centered and antisocial about pretending that there's no social element to our displays, and that we don't involve other people to some extent whenever we do anything in public.

I am all for letting people know that they're making fools of themselves with their choice of presentation. I would like to bring back shame in that regard.

Hear hear! I see so many people with no respect for themselves or their bodies. So little real modesty these days. Or professionalism.

People look at how you present yourself. If you're showing yourself off, people will look. You can't dress like that and expect people to take you seriously.

That's a bit of a false equivalence. Clothes are not the same as someone's face or body. You can help what you put on your body. But not everyone can help the appearance of their face or body (unless it's to conceal it from the public).

For the record, I'm not saying you shouldn't call out folks where their presentation is completely inappropriate. I'm just saying the default reaction to such things shouldn't be "be a dick to the person." (Kicking someone out of a business for wearing a porn shirt isn't being a dick, it's conforming to business practices. Telling them their shirt is inappropriate isn't being a dick. However, mocking their looks as you escort them out IS being a dick.)

But anon! you say. These ladies are celebs and have probably had tons of plastic surgery and thus can help their looks! Well, that's probably true. But imagine meeting someone similar in looks but didn't get plastic surgery, or say, had to get reconstructive surgery due to other circumstances. Would you make fun of them for not appearing human enough? Or would you conclude they don't deserve mockery for the reason they aren't celebs or bad people?

Also, suggesting other people are not human isn't great. Dehumanizing others is what some do to justify their horrible treatment of others, all while holding themselves up to be good people. And I'm sure someone will say "But it's just a joke, anon! Don't you recognize a joke?!" Well, sure, it's a joke, the same way "conservative humor" exists. IMO jokes are best punching up. I'm just not convinced that bashing someone's looks falls into the category, even if they are a celeb.

To be fair, 100 years ago, she might've been considered one. Hell, she might be again if the US ends up sliding as far back as people fear it might.
