I agree with this. Sometimes someone can write something following all of a person's tastes and it just... doesn't click for the recipient. It doesn't mean it's a bad fic or anything, just that while it checked all the boxes, the recipient didn't like it. It happens. It's like being able to tell you don't like a book from the first five pages--sometimes the writing style just doesn't click no matter how good a story is!

So, yeah, if the recipient was polite and thanked the author and privately vented in a space they thought was safe to do so, I really don't think they did anything wrong. If they told the author, though, that's a different story.

Yes, and I'm not saying OP is wrong to feel the way they do either. Finding out things like that sucks. I'm just not sure about immediately blaming the recipient like they went up to OP and told them they're bad. Probably a lot of people wouldn't even think that an anonymous gifter would check their recipient's personal blog/journal/site and think they are commenting in relative private.

Might just be an unfortunate situation. :(
