Maybe not attractive, but there are video game characters that I would use (or use more) if I didn't find their visual design offputting. Their abilities are practical, but it doesn't quite make up for not wanting to look at them. And I need to look at them and stay focused on what's happening around them to accomplish most of what I'm trying to do, so it makes a difference.

da and yeah, same. If I'm going to be forced to look at a character while I'm playing a game, then I have to be at least neutral on their appearance. I really can't play a game if I actively find the playable character's design unappealing.
