I've been in a few big fandoms during my time and good god I'd always utilize the block button as much as possible, it's especially annoying when I even like the main fandom ship but I just. Do. Not. Like the opinions I see other fans have about it so I still end up having to block a lot of people. There is such a curse as a fandom being too big imo.

lmao gosh yeah i've been there in a fandom not shipping the m/m fanon otp and getting called a homophobe despite being GAY and shipping other m/m and f/f ships in the fandom. which is annoying because there are homophobes in fandoms but they're not the ones shipping a different gay ship, lmao.

Unfortunately there's always one of two of these idiots somewhere. I've had people get mad at me for correcting their "headcanon" with actual canon. Like, I don't care if they write fic, it was just obnoxious hearing them insist something was true in canon when that wasn't the case.

Yeah, there's fandoms where you can weed out the main offenders and eventually find a nice chill group and there's fandoms that just want everyone to be miserable. I hope your new fandom is the former kind.

I've mostly kept to a small group or orbited around the fandom with big fandoms for more or less these reasons.

Too many "how I experience and view this fandom is the only right way to be in this fandom" personalities, and a lot of hierarchical relationships/groups really kills any desire to connect with people in big fandoms.

I thought we were just enjoying a thing together, but the attitudes around most fandoms tend to be pitting people and things against each other.

You can't just simply have a favorite character and want your favorite character to have a good arch in their story. You have to pit them against another character or say the creator(s) or other fans are treating your favorite character wrong.

Makes me think they need to go seek help on their victim/persecution complex and stop projecting it onto things unrelated to their worldview.
