Ableism + sampling bias = ?

"Before it was permissible," yes indeed, I agree with you that we should go back to the good ol' days where if you had a not-normal brain you were properly ashamed of it and kept it a secret so you just got bullied for being "weird," not for being autistic.

What's with the recent trend on FS of secrets claiming autistic people can't/shouldn't be writers?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What's with the recent trend of almost every comment being anonymous?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
"learning how real people think" Does this means as opposed to fictional people, or are we implying autistic people aren't real people now

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yikes.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Shit take. You sound benevolently ableist, not gonna lie.

As an autistic aspiring writer, I have to say that those comments warmed up my heart a lot after how shitty this secret (and the previous one like it) made me feel. I wasn't sure if I was overreacting or misunderstanding the secret, especially the "real people" part, but at least, if I am, I'm not alone. I also want to point out to OP, that you can't know for sure how many authors were and are autistic. Some could be/could have been undiagnosed or could keep it/could have kept it under wrap (as is my intention). Hope you're just a troll.

I suppose, Neil Gaiman has definite autistic traits too and he is a successful author.

go away

Do we know STP was autistic? He seems a little old to have gotten diagnosed.

But whichever way, the best things about his writing were 1) his journalist background, 2) having something to say, 3) a deep love of folklore, 4) his passion (or rage), 5) his wit, 6) his desire to get paid. That last one is important because the man put up some fucking numbers. Would I love him half so much if he stopped at 6 novels? Idk man.

We don't, no. OP is just doing another round of 'anyone who I is smart and I like must be neuro-spicy - who wants to be a stupid neuro-bland, ewwww!'

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, OP, who thinks Terry Pratchett was the only good autistic writer and all other good writers are real people, sure does love them their autistics and hate boring NTs.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It is true the Neuro Diverse people are more likely to be good at what they do, that is just a fact.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's not even certain that he had autism, what are you even talking about?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-25 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
I mean I knew you were awful from the jump, but 'real people' really cemented it, wow. So we're not real people to you?

"Real" people? WTF? Please tell me this one is trolling.
