Oh look it's me.

Sure, I've always liked Star Trek but I haven't watched any of the new ones. But I've been around fandom/cons for 25+ years and Older Fandom likes Dr. Who and terrible fantasy books from the 1970s (I do not). Young Fandom likes whatever anime just came out last month (I do not). My experience with current Baldur's Gate fans flashed me back so hard to 2006 that I almost hurt myself. Older Fandom talks about the glory days when the EU was considered part of Star Wars canon and Peter Jackson was just some horror movie guy, and that's just not me. It's a lonely place to be, when you're too wrinkled and fat to cosplay teenage boys anymore, but can't get with the other old farts reminiscing about Shatner.

OP
Yes! I have old interests and occasionally I can reminiscent about Jackson being horror guy (I have some of his works on VHDS). But that's occasional and I am not invested.

My current fandom is absolutely lovely, but sometimes I just feel acutely how different we are. Also fanfiction is quite shit ngl.

Ey, this is currently me and my past 3 fandoms.

I do sometimes visit the older fandoms like Star Trek and LOTRs (although admittedly in the more movies-based shitposts side for the latter), my main interests have been youtube webseries based - which just happens to have a largely teen-young adult fan base on Tumblr.

Even though I do post fanworks, I normally avoid discussions and fan events that require working with someone. I just like fandom fun without all the inevitable drama that the younger side always manages to drum up once in a while. Kinda sucks since I still miss the commenting-interaction of my Livejournal fandom days; but also nothing will convince me to switch my messaging back on Tumblr.

I'm actually glad I'm one of the older people in my fandoms, because it means I don't fall for the drama/fan wars that a lot of the younger fans engage in.

I think it's funny that I always stanned middle-aged characters and ships and now I'm finally the same age or older than the characters.

I am in Succession fandom and it amuses me how many young fans ship a woman in her 60s with a 30 year old (canon BDSM ship) or ships with two 40-year-old guys or a May/December middle aged guy with a twentysomething pothead.
