I've never been to a con. Do people drink a lot at them?

Oh yes, it's very common at sci-fi and comic/all-genre cons. Anime cons a little less because the core demographic skews younger but adults in certain corners still party. Sci-fi cons have a 50+ year tradition of parties and buying out the hotel bar. DragonCon isn't fun unless you've got a drink in hand and there are popup bars in dozens of places in each hotel. CONvergence was literally built around room parties (they split from another convention that wanted to ban parties in order to have intelligent literary discussions all night long).

I used to not drink and still had fun, but the older you get the harder it is to make your own fun. Drinking is how you forget that you wasted a ton of money to be here and spend the whole time bored off your ass.

Even anime cons in the UK and Europe are piss ups due to having more sensible drinking ages.

But why continue to go if it's that boring?

Thanks for the dose of Puritanism, go have a drink and settle down a bit.

AYRT

How in the world is it Puritan to ask why someone's doing something that's boring? It's possible to drink while doing things you actually enjoy, you know.

Oh pulease. I grew up with puritans and temperance campaigners, I know their dogwhistles when I hear them.
