I'm almost starting to wonder if Trump elevated him just to get him to self-destruct.

DA
He's not that smart

It wouldn't seem so, but he elevated a lot of people first term who ended up with destroyed careers. They took his falls for him, and he's still here.

nayrt - I think that demonstrates Trump's capacity for selfishness and putting himself first. I'm not sure it indicates premeditation, however. I think that's just how Trump is, period. He uses people, and then discards them when they're no longer of use, or if they upset him or fail to flatter him.

Basically, you'd have to be a grasping idiot to join Trump's team without understanding that he'll stab you in the back without a moment's remorse if he feels like it. But a lot of people are either foolish or plain greedy, so they try it anyway.

nayrt but this. Get mixed up with Trump, expect to take damage at some point. You don't have to be a genius to destroy someone's career or life, you just have to be a fucking trainwreck.

Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

Elon's a billionaire though. Not much can hurt him, ultimately.

He's a troll in the Eric Cartman mold. Once someone pointed that out, I can't unsee it whenever he posts anything or appears on TV.

Trump may not have, but I bet Thiel did. Thiel is the real danger, and we're all sleeping on it.

This sounds like something either The Real News Network or The American Prospect would be in a good position to investigate. Have you pitched this to either outlet as a story?

I don't think there was any thought whatsoever tbh.

I am loving it though. No matter what politics you have there is no way to deny a 50 year old billionaire cheating on video games for clout is cringe and pathetic

da

Given that when I grew up it seemed like everyone older than 16 thought that playing video games and admitting to it in public made you a loser or a budding delinquent, I'm finding it sociologically fascinating that public perceptions of gaming as something people could actually be admired for (in the same US that stigmatized arcades so hard) have changed THIS much. I get that pretty much by definition, the technocrats of Silicon Valley are nerds among nerds, but still.

Nah. That gives Trump way too much credit for being able to plan ahead and be subtle. It's likely he elevated Musk because Musk has some qualities that Trump envies/admires - wealth, devoted delusional following, reputation for genius, etc. and that Musk was probably willing to do a lot of butthole-polishing for him.

Musk donated money to his campaign.
