I like the goofballs with a dark side who use humor and/or cringe to hide their insanely dark, traumatic, and tragic pasts and/or current struggles.

Also, anyone with a strong sense of justice who will commit atrocities because of it. The juxtaposition there, especially if they themselves recognize how hypocritical they're being, is so good.

Combine the two and sprinkle in a bit of a redemption arc?? Sold. No notes. 10/10 character.
