Re: 1st person POV preferences

Like any other storytelling devices, I like any POV when done well, dislike it when it isn't. As one of the anons above has pointed out, first person POV is essential to some narratives. In others, especially your traditional high fantasy fare, I could see it argued that the overarching perspective of an omniscient third person narrator better fits the legendary or epic tone. I'm here for the skill of the storyteller - the only thing that "takes me out" of a story is bad writing, and there's a shitton of that from every POV.

That said, it is a bit sad when a writer is clearly shying away from a more interesting POV that might work better for the story they're trying to tell and goes with a safe close third person POV because they know that so many prospective readers are allergic to reading anything else.
