Don't know if homophobic specifically, but definitely very rigid and conservative in terms of gender roles and expectations. I feel like a part of the culture has forgotten in recent years that there are many ways to be a man or woman, gay or straight.

Totally agree. I will never comprehend why understanding that "wants to look nice" and "likes men" are two completely different things is such a difficult concept for some people.
