Honestly if I could wave a magic wand and just make everyone who wanted to live in the US and be a citizen into a citizen, I would. Not everyone would want to, but even if everyone did we could fit the entire world's population in the US; it'd just take ~4,700 Manhattans.

I don't understand the drive to punish anyone for coming here "illegally;" they pay more in taxes than they ever get back, and white people who stole land from Native Americans in the first place, and their descendants *raises hand*, have no moral high ground to stand on.

I'd rather have "illegal" neighbors than the kind of people who think of children or even their desperate parents as criminals just for not following the legal but expensive, protracted, and complicated process to come here. And it makes me sick to think that the kinds of moral black hole that think putting kids in prison is justifiable run the country.

Even from an economic standpoint, we're paying private contractors through the nose to run concentration camps internment camps detention centers and the military to fly people to countries that they may have no memories of or family left in, or even speak the language.

I think some people just like to punish and/or hurt others and come up with people to hate. Idk how to reach them or make them stop.

Also, the legal immigration process favors white people. 100%. These people want slave labor, not deportations, they just say they want that, and they'll cheer when those "labor camps" happen without any fucking realization that's EXACTLY how Nazi Germany started.

I'm not sure liberal people are immune from the desire for slave labor. The common argument that we need migrants, because they do the jobs Americans don't want to do for lower wages and in worse conditions, is a deeply troublesome one. It suggests that immigration should be unfettered largely so that we can have an underclass to exploit.

Most liberals believe in a living wage and safe working conditions, not exploitation.

I'm not sure you'd like the problems associated with having all 8 billion people on the planet living in the US. Keep in mind that the currently most populous countries are also the most polluted and congested, and have even more extremes of poverty and wealth than we do. And China has become something of a neo-colonial power so that it can gather the resources needed to support its population.

The notion that we would be able to take in every single person who wants to be here, no questions asked, is incredibly naive. People should be treated as humans beings, with dignity, regardless whether they're here legally or not; but that's separate from the question of how much immigration we can reasonably accommodate.

AYRT-I'm not saying it would be a perfect solution, and obviously not everyone on earth wants to be a US citizen and/or live in the US. To some extent the pollution problems are the result of lax laws about pollution. Even Manhattan famously has problems with trash because of the way they handle garbage and garbage collection.

And the US relies on prison slave labor and poorly compensated, constantly under threat immigrant labor at home, and poverty wages, child labor, and prison labor abroad. If everyone on Earth became a US citizen, there would still need to be people living outside the US's present borders just to produce the resources to keep all 8+ billion citizens fed and housed, and food and goods would become way more expensive as everyone would suddenly be paid at least $7.25 USD per hour. Which is criminally low in most of the US and more than many people make in a week elsewhere. We also export a lot of our trash to poorer countries, which is unconscionable.

But considering our current asshole in chief's dreams of territorial expansion seem to involve conquest anyway, with bonus genocide and/or ethnic cleansing, I'd trade those problems for the ones we have. And if I had a magic wand that could do more than grant US citizenship, a lot of people* would end up as toads, and everyone would have nutritious tasty food, plenty of clean water, and safe comfortable shelter.**

*most of the current US administration, for a start. Putin and Erdogan, too.

**even the toads.

Leal immigration also improves the economy. I'm against *illegal* immigration too, but when I was thinking about bringing my partner over here I realized the process is petty hard. That's why illegal immigration is so rampant.

Conflating all illegal immigrants with criminals is a dogwhistle. My family's partner have been racially profiled despite being born here.
