Right?

I am so baffled at how quickly some folk will blatantly tell others 'oh yeah I used to run around saying slurs all the time, but I got better!' as if the admission of that wouldn't put people on edge, especially those who would be affected by those slurs. I'm not saying you can't have grown from it, but you do not need to go around telling people this like some bizarre badge of honor like you're some kind of hero for knowing what some of us have known since we could talk?

Yeah. I think there are just a lot more shitty people out there than I'd like to believe (although I guess that should be obvious given the results of the last election, but that's a different topic). Not using racial or gay slurs is like the absolute fucking minimum to being a decent person and the fact that so many people act like that's just such a completely unreasonable thing to expect of people is fucking wild to me.
