Santa is fandom now?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-28 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I assumed this was referencing secret santa fandom exchanges

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this was pretty obvious to me.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I think some people come here just to nitpick or get upset at silly things.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
No. This really isn't a secret. They are getting neglectful about what is and isn't a fandom secret.

Come on.

I guess OP should've spelled it out for the people who didn't get the reference to deadlines - THIS IS ABOUT SECRET SANTA EXCHANGES INVOLVING FANFICTION OR FANART. Because people sign up for these secret santa exchanges, then fail to make the holiday deadline.

100%, totally fandom.

Are you the idiot who keeps ranting about fandom secrets being "fake"?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
No. They are the ones who wants to police the content of the comm.

If your complaint really is that it's not a secret and not that it's not fandom (as those who apparently weren't aware of Secret Santa fic/art exchanges were saying)... I do think they'd be justified in saying this with their name attached, but clearly they don't feel comfortable doing so for whatever reason (maybe they don't want their partner in the exchange to get wind of it), so how is that not enough of a secret?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
have you seen how little kids rave about him?

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we get it. You're just "blunt" about how you describe fandom.

You're an idiot.

I know you really enjoy playing the content police in this comm, but you are an idiot.

All right, so yes, this secret is about Secret Santa fanworks exchanges...but I am here to say that Santa can also be fandom! There are several movies following the adventures of Santa, in one form or another. My son loves the series with Kurt Russell as Santa and Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Clause, and since we don't celebrate Christmas, he basically sees him as a fantasy/action hero. The way he interacts with it I think could definitely be said to be "fannish," and any fanworks associated with it could be said to be a sort of Santa fandom.

But even if we're looking outside of those kinds of films, there are people who are really, really into Santa! They collect all sorts of Santa-themed stuff, and sometimes make their own. Couldn't those people be said to be engaging in a kind of Santa fandom?

Considering all the Santa movies in general, and how every single comic universe has Santa being 100% real and talking to the heroes, and the lore around him due to said movies, hell yeah, there's a Santa Fandom.

Guys, this is about a Secret Santa, not Santa.

Santa doesn't even have deadlines. Unless you count Christmas Eve.

Anyway OP, I hear you.

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Never mind the commenters with poor reading comprehension and hair-trigger criticism drive, OP, I got it. IME, some people sign up with good intentions but they aren't honest with themselves about their ability to actually follow through. It's very frustrating. Unexpected emergencies are one thing, but everyone knows the holidays can be a busy, stressful time and yet people still delude themselves into thinking, "I can make that deadline if it's for someone else!"

Frankly, I think it's pretty crappy to gamble like that but people do it all the time, then make excuses like whoops they didn't realize how busy they'd be, it'll be another week at most, etc. and some of them just disappear and are never heard from again.

THIS
Frankly I noped out from a lot of challenges because of people never meeting deadlines. I was burned too many times

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
But what if I want to experience the self importance of being a SS contributer, but have no real intention of doing the work. What if I just want the ego stroking?
--So many "fans".

(Anonymous) 2025-01-29 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say don't join Fandom Exchanges in general not just Secret Santas but yes. I guess people put even more expectations on Santa's than any other one?
