I have to say I agree. I can't think of any media where I liked how the original creators decided to age up their characters. I think by a certain point, there are just too many fan theories and fan fics that ruin any updates that become canon.

For example, Rugrats All Grown Up. As much as I enjoyed some of the updates, I overall didn't like the All Grown Up versions of Chuckie, Kimmy and Dil. And there were a lot tweaks I would have preferred for some characters even if the updated versions overall weren't too bad.
