So fucking angry right now. So angry. My client was supposed to have a bond hearing this morning. Only they moved him to a different detention center last night. Same with another attorney's bond client.

They are doing it on purpose. They see who has attorneys and move those people first. They are evil. Just fucking evil. So fucking angry.

Well, fuck them. Still going to get this guy back to his family. Just won't be this weekend.

But I'm so angry. So, so angry. And feeling helpless. I want to punch something. I want to scream. I don't even know. Trying to focus that energy into helping other clients. But today was hard.

And which country are his family in?

His parents are dead. His wife and kids are here. Been here 10+ years, has a job, owns a home, pays his taxes every year. No criminal history. Such a decent guy his boss is the one who hired us.

And? If he didn't come to America legally, he has to leave and go back and try the right way. If he was such a stand up guy, he could have done it properly the first time.

This comment is appallingly in bad faith, but more for other readers' sake than yours, I'm going to state that most undocumented immigrants do, in fact, come here legally, then overstay their visas. This is vastly exaggerated rhetoric with no basis in reality. And those who do come here "illegally" often do so either as trafficking victims or fleeing conflict--is this really where you want to hang your hat?

I am an immigrant. I have never been undocumented, but I almost lost status, because USCIS had granted my mother a visa, but not me.
Will people like you ever understand the anguish my mother went through when she learnt that she might have to be torn away from her child a second time, after the first time she went abroad to provide for her family (not just me but her extended family) forced her to miss a year of my early childhood, I wonder.
Would you have been as compassionate as the man who signed off on her paperwork, that she confronted directly to say, "Sir, if you don't give my child a visa, I will turn around and go right back home to my country, I will not go without him"? The man who then promised that he would do everything in his power to make sure she and her child would both be able to stay in the country, and pursue her dream of a better life.
My mother endured traumas, primary and secondary, under a dictatorship that many people did not survive.
Is this where you want to hang your hat?

Overstaying a visa is still illegal entry, and yeah to preempt your net question, fucking deport Elon for Visa Fraud too. Maybe our lawyer friend can go defend his right to be in America too.

So, this is what immigrants should today expect of the United States.

On the one hand, inscribed upon the base of the Statue of Liberty is Emma Lazarus's "The New Colossus":

...But in practice, even though the US promised my family a better life, and I have lived here for a quarter of a century singing her anthems, participating in her economy, living nowhere else for the last quarter of a century, if my visa expired tomorrow, I would be considered illegal and un-American.

I can't think of anything more pitiful. Not for myself, but a country so filled with hate she would reject those who look up to her, who have motivation to work hard in a free society such as they've never had the privilege of experiencing before.

With all due respect, you sound white. And xenophobic.

But go ahead and continue playing the "game" on easy mode, and pretend you accomplished something for completing it. You never have to see things from the viewpoints of anyone forced to play the game on various handicaps or claim any knowledge of such things.

Elon's not going anywhere unless a bunch of folks drag him out by his ankles and stuff him into a sack and load him onto a cargo plane back to South Africa (or one of his rockets into the Sun, I don't really care). Whether or not something's "legal" isn't always an indication of what is right or decent or acceptable. But something tells me you're well aware of that.

If this is what you believe, you know absolutely nothing about our difficult, ridiculous immigration system, the immigrants who come here, or the absolute devastation it would be to our economy to deport all of them.

And Trump's proposed rules for proving citizenship would disqualify me anyway; I've got at least one ancestor who came over on the Mayflower, but there was no naturalization ceremony unless murdering some of the native people directly or via disease counts. And he probably didn't even speak English, heh.

If only such standards were upheld to all "illegal" immigrants, like the ones from Ireland and Scotland and other white people. But no. Stop using this as a cover for your racism, nonny.

Trump and co. are set to cut Medicaid.

Makes me sick to see MAGAs act like it's "people who won't work" and not the working poor, disabled kids, and people in nursing homes who benefit from Medicaid. Rural hospitals are screwed! Medicaid covers about 41–42% of births in the United States!

Why the fuck do normal folks accept paying for this with our taxes (I do not need Medicaid but see all of the benefit this program has) but billionaires never have enough?

If they were smart, then Democrats would use this as a springboard to talk about how they would instate a full Nationalized Health Service like the UK when they got back to power. Instead they are already talking about how they might soften some of the edges, but fundamentally accept that new normal. That is why they lost, and they can't work out why people don't want a "we'll hold the Status Quo party" as their delegates.

We the people will remember who spoke out and fought, and who rolled over and left us on our own.

I hope the more progressive members among the Democrats break off and start their own party at some point. No, I'm not kidding. We need folks who care more about the people than their own investments.
