You're not alone OP, as much as I love AO3 - I hate these spammy amounts of pointlessly bland drabbles that clog up the fics (and so many where the fandom isn't even there - but they're gonna totally write it in later).
And god help you if you're in a fandom where the fics you would like to read have crossovers in the tags. I wish there was a way to filter out the amount of crossovers instead of all or nothing as a filter, because in my current fandom any 'fic' with more than 4 crossovers would be the exact sort of thing that I would happily filter out.
