What's exploitative is that it takes two people working full-time outside the home to even think of living a "middle class" lifestyle. At least one of those people is going to end up doing two jobs.

I'll give OP the benefit of the doubt and assume they would be willing to manage household duties in their "active time" as well as pursue hobbies.

In the past year, my partner and I decided to go single income. He works outside the house, and I manage the household. We have little income and can no longer afford luxuries, but our home life is more enjoyable. The house isn't in a constant state of chaos. We enjoy nutritious home-cooked meals for less than we used to spend on food. The budget is managed meticulously. I run all necessary errands, so no one has to spend time after work or on the weekend buying groceries, getting car service, recycling, returning library books, etc. We grow food. We don't have clutter from buying things we don't need. It's been rewarding for both of us.

What's this idea that one person is always going to be working at least two jobs? Is that what your partner does?

mte, I don't know anyone who works two jobs who isn't in their 20s and just getting started in life. Or, well, I know some people who have a second job because it's something they enjoy but doesn't pay well enough on its own to live off of, so they do it on the side for fun.

NA

What's this idea that one person is always going to be working at least two jobs?

I'm pretty sure that AYRT meant that, in a household where both adults work, at least one of them is going to be doing the equivalent of a fulltime job in housecleaning, cooking, managing the household finances, childcare, car maintenance, etc. on top of their paid work.
