Yes, I HATE that.

I have very little respect for vocal ship or character-haters in general, though. I mean, when they're vocal about it, but ESPECIALLY when they jam that into unrelated fic. It's a click out for me, bro.

EXACTLY. I would respectfully stay clear if it even had any indication that it was going to spend a chunk of the story doing that. But in my experience the writer that kept doing this had written some really interesting summaries for the few fics I tried to read, but got smacked with a chunk of 'this other ship sucks' mixed into the mix of the story.

My response to this kind of fic writer (my biggest fic pet peeve honestly) is "I'm here to read a story not listen to a sermon"

Need to vent? Ohay whatever. But i hope you've made peace with the fact I likely won't read it if your title and summary and author notes all reek if "this fic is me on my soapbox".

Yeah no, hard pass

I have been so tantalizingly close to leave a comment like that behind, but didn't want to flame them and just avoid their stories now.

Yeah honestly. I just scroll on past and think. 'im too damn old to fight over this'

I haven't run into this too often thankfully, but when I have oh my god is it the most annoying shit ever. People are free to not like a ship idc but I want my A/C fic to actually be about A/C not bitching about a rival ship, or even more annoying, a completely different ship that has nothing to do with mine.

Some people just can't turn off their inner hater and it can really get in the way.

Yeah, I just want to read the other ship that I had found without having to feel like I got tricked into sitting through some hater lecture.
I'd wish they'd at least tag the bashing so I could avoid it.

(Anonymous) 2025-02-27 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I always filter out character bashing tags, I've found it helps.

(Anonymous) 2025-02-28 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
How do you do that? Just depends on people tagging? Because ime many authors that have character or pairing bashing don't even seem to be aware they are doing it so don't tag.

(Anonymous) 2025-02-28 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it would help even more if they actually inserted those exact tags. Your fandom experience is not entirely universal buddy.

(Anonymous) 2025-02-28 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oof, I hate that. I usually stop reading if the bashing on the ship the author hates goes on too much.
