I don't like to gatekeep fandom but it does seem like a percentage of newer folk have the wrong idea of what it involves. Nothing wrong with vanilla fandom if that's your jam, of course, but prepare to see folks also chowing down on rocky road and butter pecan and rainbow sherbet. Maybe there should be a "how to curate your fandom experience" guide given to everyone new to fandom.
