I don’t know if you feel this way, but I have a little melancholy about the movie/TV versions of characters becoming so culturally dominant over the book versions.

They’re so often flatter and less interesting.

I think part of it is tons of people are chronically online now and no longer remember what it's like to have a serious discussion, with a real person, face to face. Sure you might chat with a coworker about the weather or something but that's not the same as really discussing anything you care about personally. The proportion of social spaces where civility is expected has become less and less over time and in more and more people the skill gets lost.

It isn't just young people or fandom, either. Tons of isolated boomers out there who think they'd totally be badasses that say what they think out loud, until they actually try and everybody else finds them to be super weird for being so vehement and entitled and sounding like some raging Facebook comment IRL. People make cater their online experience exactly how they want it then are surprised when the real world doesn't work the same way.

What is your Pet Peeve about other people's driving?

Mine is when someone pulls out right in front of me, then proceeds to do ten miles an hour slower than I was going. Why didn't you just wait until I was out the way, if you wanted to drive so slow?
