ANON, I AM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. I saw it three times and I felt the same. Thankfully, friends I saw it with agreed. So obviously you are not alone.

This movie made me cry so damn hard, I can't even talk to anybody about it because just talking about it makes me cry.

I thought most of it was funny. Any part with Ellie? I cried like a bitch.

YES, YES, ME TOO. After that opening sequence, it took me the longest time to accept that the adventure was really happening and wasn't just one last-minute escapist delusion of the old guy before going off to the old folks home.

And then I started crying all over AGAIN from happiness because he was getting his adventure and... yeah, I was a wreck throughout the film. The little kid sitting in front of me actually kept turning round in sad moments to see if I was crying, and would sit and watch me instead if I was.

Only part of this I've seen was the dude's little bit with his wife.

I can't watch the movie now. That part fucking murdered me. I can't, I'll fucking sob all the way through it.

I started crying through the first five minutes. Such a bittersweet movie.

...no, that was actually pretty good. But I went into the theater expecting to bawl my eyes out, and I didn't even mist up. Expectations too high? I don't know. It takes a lot to make me cry at a movie/show though.

I feel like...it's depressing in a good way. Idk, it's strange.

I cried through pretty much this whole movie. There are so many downers in it and I even thought the end was kind of sad.

i know what you mean. i loved the movie, i thought it was beautiful. but so much of it broke my heart.

A lot of people said the same. But I still need to see it...

I sobbed through the Married Life montage and was tearful for most of the rest of the film, on all three occasions I saw it. Now I can't listen to the soundtrack without feeling like I'm being kicked in the solar plexus.

(lest anyone get the opposite impression, I loved it)

I also could not stop sobbing. I was frowning, smiling, laughing, everything, but could not stop crying.

Okay, I really want to know what the hell is it with this movie that like, breaks people. This is not the first secret I've seen about this. Is this not a movie about a dumbass fat boy scout, an old guy, and a talking dog who fly in a house? SPOIL ME, PPL. I am confused.

Dude your friends are weird. I sobbed throughout this movie. It's just a Disney thing.

I'm sorry you feel that way. The beginning was crushingly sad, but one of the things I got out of it was the importance of moving on and learning to laugh again after a tragedy.

I was the same way, anon. I cried through most of Wall-E, too. Those damn Pixar movies break my heart.

I bawled a couple times through it, and the friend I went to see it with kept laughing at me =/

That's so funny! I ended up seeing it in theaters 3 times because different groups of friends wanted to see it (not that it wasn't good enough to warrant 3 viewings!), and the first two times I saw it, the audience in the theater and my friends reacted like I did: a few tears during the sad moments, but overall cheerful and funny. On the third time, though, all the friends I saw it with and everyone in the theater was sobbing. The whole time, the attitude was somber and depressed. So you're not alone, don't feel bad! I hope you still liked the movie, even if it was a downer for you. <3

I love this movie and want to get it on DVD, but...for some reason, animated films don't make me cry. Series, yes, but not films. Damn it, I want to join the crying squad. :(

Yeah, I was kinda bummed by the time the movie actually started because no matter what, it was only gonna be bittersweet.

The miscarriage/infertility bit and Ellie's declining health broke my heart. Not even talking dogs could lift me out of that one. :(

I sobbed during anything with Ellie (and again at the end), but it had one of the sweetest, most sincere, most genuine relationships I've seen in a movie in a very long time. It *was* uplifting--he had the kind of life people dream of having, and he eventually pulled himself up and found a reason to keep going without her. He finds new people to live for, and gives back to Russell, who's just a kid desperately wanting the love and approval of a dad. Everybody dies eventually; acknowledging that doesn't make a film a downer when it's whole message is that it's what you do while you're here that matters.

I agree with the first part being the good one...
