I don't care for it either. It comes across like various overdone forms of self-deprecation, just applied to others. And it's especially grating when people say it in response to characters acting like normal human beings or showing softness toward one another. I dunno, it almost feels less like endearment and more like discomfort with vulnerability and normalcy, where it's all got to be papered over with irony or, again, deprecation.
