Yes! It was such a big deal for me when I first got online (when I started university) and found that there were nerdy women EVERYWHERE! I had previously only met one apart from me, she was my only female friend in high school. And I have been happily messing around in fandom ever since.

I would not describe fandom as being filled with people who are constantly disappointed in media. Disappointed with aspects of media, sure, but the entire reason people are in fandom is because we're really, really into the media we consume. We obsess over it. We spend hours upon hours thinking about, discussing, and creating for it. We spend hundreds, even thousands, of dollars on it. Really, we love it to pieces, even if there some things about it that we think could be better.

Are there women creating things because they're disappointed by what's out there? Sure. But I think they're much more likely to be creating original art.

You do you OP but I’m here in fandom because I love the stories I consumed and wanted to play with them some more. I’ve been disappointed in small aspects here and there sure but for the most part I’m here because of love not the need to fix something I don’t consider broken to begin with.

Hooray, correct use of "squick" in that you know it's your issue and deal with it rather than harassing people! I personally dislike any kind of mentor/mentee situation from teacher/student onwards, but posting in fandom secrets is absolutely the correct way to complain about it.

Okay, I still need to see Transformers One (because so many tell me it is good), but now I wanna watch it to see if this secret is true and it IS the shortest time between death and rebirth for Optimus Prime, because so far, the winner is still Transformers Animated (maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't been in the fandom since 2015), where he died and came back for all of 30 seconds. Which I think is hilarious, because it feels like the writers knew this is just a thing with Optimus, so they decided to get it over and done with on episode 3. XD

Seriously. No-one is saying these characters don't have depth or layers or whatever else. It's just an affectionate way of showing love and appreciation for their flaws and mistakes. You know, the stuff that gives them depth and layers in the first place?

I'm sure this is about video games but God Fucking The Fuck Fucking Dammit if it isn't true about TTRPGs.

Did you just ask what to roll? Girl, we've been playing for 3 years you roll a d20.

You sum up all your bonuses each time? Boy I swear on Groetus' groin you are not good enough at math for that.

You waited until *YOUR TURN* to look up the spell requirements?!?!?!?!?!

But also my standards are a little high. I think you should roll all dice together, the d20 for the base, the d4 from the bless, and the 2d6 for the damage. One roll. Add it all together and then KNOW what the damage is right off. Then if you miss you can give it a bit of flavor AND ALSO we save 20 seconds per person. It adds up.

But you're my friends you're my friends you're my friends you're my friends so I'll just take a sip of something and zone out for a bit.
