(Anonymous) 2025-03-05 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)I have a little spiel when I play with someone new, like, "If you know what you're going to do you can set all your dice up to remind you. And if you roll them all at once you have all the information at hand!"
But I'm typically dealing with pals who aren't tracking the advancement of the game in between their turns and spend two minutes each getting caught up to speed ("So this guy has a bow? I stab him. Oh he's on the roof? Oh yeah ok, um, I climb up and stab him. Uh that's 75 ft of movement? Ok I move 30 and shoot him with my bow. That's D20 plus dex right? And what's my proficiency mod? Has it gone up yet? No? Ok. Does 13 hit? Cool so 9 damage. Wait, sorry I rolled a d10 let me just find a d6 real in here.")
This is why I prefer to GM. Then I can set expectations and also stay occupied.
