I'm sure this is about video games but God Fucking The Fuck Fucking Dammit if it isn't true about TTRPGs.

Did you just ask what to roll? Girl, we've been playing for 3 years you roll a d20.

You sum up all your bonuses each time? Boy I swear on Groetus' groin you are not good enough at math for that.

You waited until *YOUR TURN* to look up the spell requirements?!?!?!?!?!

But also my standards are a little high. I think you should roll all dice together, the d20 for the base, the d4 from the bless, and the 2d6 for the damage. One roll. Add it all together and then KNOW what the damage is right off. Then if you miss you can give it a bit of flavor AND ALSO we save 20 seconds per person. It adds up.

But you're my friends you're my friends you're my friends you're my friends so I'll just take a sip of something and zone out for a bit.

What? That's not high standards; that's a bizarre personal quirk. I have never been at a table where damage is rolled at the same time as the attack, even when among people who've been playing since the '80s and can quote entire sections of various PHBs from memory.

If you're going around expecting people to do something that's both outside of the normal realm of play and is contrary to RAW, then yeah, you're gonna be disappointed.

Really? It's standard in organized/convention play. At least all the cons I've gone to! (Which is like 3.) When you absolutely have to fit a game into the allotted time frame you get efficient.

I have a little spiel when I play with someone new, like, "If you know what you're going to do you can set all your dice up to remind you. And if you roll them all at once you have all the information at hand!"

But I'm typically dealing with pals who aren't tracking the advancement of the game in between their turns and spend two minutes each getting caught up to speed ("So this guy has a bow? I stab him. Oh he's on the roof? Oh yeah ok, um, I climb up and stab him. Uh that's 75 ft of movement? Ok I move 30 and shoot him with my bow. That's D20 plus dex right? And what's my proficiency mod? Has it gone up yet? No? Ok. Does 13 hit? Cool so 9 damage. Wait, sorry I rolled a d10 let me just find a d6 real in here.")

This is why I prefer to GM. Then I can set expectations and also stay occupied.

I’ve been playing since the 80s and yes, we play exactly this way. Roll all your dice at once, be ready when it’s your turn. Be able to say what your attack roll is, what your damage is, etc.

I feel this. I love my FC in FFXIV, they're great people, but whenever they decide they want to try a Savage or an Extreme I just tear my hair out because they really are NOT good enough for that and I end up just suffering through the entire thing.

Weird, I seemed to lose friends when I finally "got gud" at games.

as an average player (let's say, gold in Overwatch/MR), for me playing with friends is just that, having fun. so I really don't care if they play good or bad. that said, I think I'm actually being iced out from my gaming friendgroup because of that lol, I think my attitude annoys my other friends who are more competitive than myself. (not that they are way better than me, they all like plat, mb diamond idk?) anyway, I noticed they never hit me up to play together when we are all online, and it's always only me asking them. I stopped asking, and it's been two months with us just playing seperately.
I get how frustrating it may be for a goal oriented players or just competitive ones to play with girls like myself, so I don't really care rn, but ngl when I first noticed it I was a bit hurt. I don't play with friends "to win", I play with friends because it's fun to privately shittalk during the match or joke around, or cooperate and strategise, or make fun duo/trio plays.
