Yeah. Haters kind of ruin everything.

And I don't mind valid criticisms or dislikes, but I'm more likely to have a conversation with a person who lists issues and gives specific story-related reasons as to why those are issues, than the person who flails about screaming how some story's ending RUINED THEIR LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFE or something. Just makes me want to do the Homer-Simpson-backing-into-bushes meme.

I do enjoy a good bitch session it has to be said, but it’s really easy to go way overboard with it to the point where it genuinely ruins your ability to have fun, and it tends to make other people miserable too.

Sometimes a fandom gets so into taking apart a dumb writing decision that every. Single. Fic has to have their own take on how to “fix” it. And after a while, I just want them to move on. Just assume your readers have already read fixes, quickly establish which one you’re using, and move on to whatever you want to say that isn’t just “canon sucked so hard for this.”

Man, yeah. That's one of the things i really MISS about the 'old days' on LJ - so many friends and 'friends' who just wanted to squee over every new episode, talk over every detail, speculate and flail about and then re-watch.... Supernatural fandom was particularly amazing for that - just so much enjoyment and fun and talk and bonding! Loved it.

Honestly the move from longform blogging and creation to shortform, anger bait engagement fueled by algorithms seems to have contributed a lot to this. It really sucks, and I feel for you.
There's room for bitch sessions and squeeing about stuff and it's so frustrating that fandom is in this weird space where it's more about the complaining than enjoying something (and I say this as someone who loves a good complaint session with friends).

I've actually found Tumblr pretty good for this as long as you block freely and don't randomly browse the tags.
