Oh he's back now? Ick.

I remember James Marsters on the dvd for Torchwood s2 talking about how bad JB's behavior was and how he was talking to people to make sure they were ok. And he tells it like "Everyone was totally fine actually! They all thought this behavior was funny! It was my own hangup!" And even I who was on the JB/Torchwood hype train was like "Huh. That sounds shitty actually. Is JM blinking in Morse code right now?" And I stopped watching the show before season 3.

All this to say. It was wrong then, it's wrong now, and people in power are never fucking held to account. If he's really back in business I hope clips of his constant flashing end up on tiktok.

I'm not surprised. If I had seen that commentary, I would have been side-eyeing John Barrowman, too. James Marsters is a good barometer for things like that. An interview he gave after guest-starring on Smallville hinted at Allison Mack's weirdness years before the cult stuff came to light.

I remember watching an interview with JB where he said that once he was dancing in a show and someone spiked his drink with laxatives that took effect while he was on stage, doing the chorus line high-kicks thing, and he said that if anyone had filmed it to send it to him, because it would be "really funny" to see. I think of that every time someone mentions his backstage/on set behaviour, not because I think it diminishes his responsibility at all, just that I have no idea what someone who thinks being poisoned by a co-worker is just zany hi-jinks would think is okay.

(Obviously, someone telling you to stop should be acted on immediately, whatever your personal idea of okay is.)

If you really want to start disliking JB, read his autobiography. I picked it up because I was a fan of Jack and Torchwood; after I finished it, I couldn't stand JB as a person anymore and it soured me on the character of Jack Harness as well.

He has never apologized for his behaviour because he doesn't see anything wrong with it. The guy is an asshole.

That’s exactly what happened to me! I never even saw Children of Earth because I read his autobiography while watching s2. He’s a truly despicable person and learning about him ruined Jack and Torchwood for me.

Did I read this secret right? Eccleston didn't return because of Barrowman? I loved Nine and really would have wanted more seasons with him.
