The more I think about this, the more pissed off I get.

Do you understand that you sound like a conservative? You evidently think people should be punished for having sexual intercourse, which is exactly what they think. What should be done with people who have a moment of weakness that results in unplanned pregnancy, those awful, rotten, stupid sinners?

I think that people who killed their own child should make everything in their power not to get pregnant again in a situation there they must be reaaaalllllyyy quite. They are not going to repopulate the Earth. They are going to kill ANOTHER child (I know there are more movies, but their realism sucks).
And they killed their child, because they were neglectful. It's not thing that happened because it's apocalypse. They chose not to use any of their brain. They left alone a kid in a dangerous situation.

And they kept being resentful towards their over (deaf!) child because of her lapse of judgement.

So yes, I think people who keep killing their children should be punished. If we are being metaphorical about it - yes, I think that "tradional" family that abuses children shouldn't have kids.

Not sure if I'd say they killed their child. They did all they could, including taking out the batteries of the noise making toy. Perhaps they SHOULD have been a bit more clear to the DEAF child that the toy made noise and thus was dangerous, but AFAIR, they were not neglectful.

They should've considered terminating the pregnancy, yes, and probably fixed that damn nail LONG before the events of the movie, but I wouldn't call them neglectful.
