Have you ever hate watched / followed / visited something? If so, what and why?

(Anonymous) 2025-03-12 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The only thing I hate-watched for a season was Supernatural, I had disliked season 6, tried watching season 7 but all I did after every single episode was complain about it, once I realised what was going on I stopped because while being mad at it was kinda of fun at first, once the season was done I realised I was just making myself unhappy for no reason. So I quit the show and have been quick to drop shows I stop enjoying ever since.

I've watched stuff I've hated but in the hopes it won't be trash (TWD and last season of GOT). I don't have the energy to watch all the things I want to watch. Much less things I hate.

Not really. I tend to give up pretty quickly if I'm not enjoying something. I always regret it when I don't. Stuck around with House and Bones way too long.

I dunno if this counts, but: I knew I wasn't going to enjoy Prometheus (which is why I had alcohol when I started watching it) but my friend really wanted me to see it and I didn't anticipate how much I would hate it. I will never watch it again, but I will enjoy hating it until the end of time.

I don't think so. Who has the time and energy to do something like that? I don't get it.

No? Unless you count following sites/accounts that are critical of what one hates? In that case, I take a look at r/ShadWatch sometimes but would never give my clicks to Shadiversity himself.

America's Next Top Model. It was/is like a train wreck; you can't look away, even as you're overwhelmed by utter horror.

Oh man yes. Hilarious train wreck. Although I did quit eventually. Stopped being an enjoyable train wreck and started actually being boring.

I enjoyed it a lot more in a genuine way in my youth. As I hit my older years, I do tend to watch it more as a hate watch (like the poor girls who really thought it would lead to something big or played up the drama for the spectacle, those wicked producers). And agreed that in the later seasons it got boring and the cringe was no longer funny to laugh at, just really uncomfortable to witness. I believe I never watched past cycle 18/19. It was the college girls season where I tried watching a few episodes and hoped out. Really wanted to give the All-Stars and US/UK a chance but they sucked.

As a kid I kinda hatewatched Barney the Dinosaur. It was popular to hate on it but I had never seen it so I took to watching it with my little sister (who was in the correct age bracket for the show). I didn't like it, but I also didn't really understand *why* it was such a target for hatred from older kids (because, spoiler, it was just edgy preteens being little shits) and kept watching and trying to figure it out.

I've kinda hatewatched some anime, usually not on purpose but more I don't start hating it until a ways in and by then I'm like 'fuck it, I started this thing I will *finish* it.' Guilty Crown is the big one that comes to mind, I was basically just watching for the great music and the hate by the end.

I read all of the Twilight series despite knowing from the discourse around it that I would hate it.

But I wanted to be able to read the discourse with my own opinions from having read the books and, tbh, while all the problematic things about them are there, the writing style was also really easy and fun to engage with. I didn't like the books, but I didn't hate reading them.

I tried that with 50 shades later, for the same reasons, I wanted to participate in conversations, but those ones I never finished. They weren't fun to read and I hated the story.

I have absolutely watched something that wasn't particularly well-written or acted because I enjoyed making fun of it with friends. That was the best reason to watch most shows that aired on the WB in the early aughts. But watching something I actually hate out of spite just seems like a waste. On the other hand, I have enjoyed watching/reading live reactions of people hate watching/reading 50 Shades of Gray, despite never engaging with the source material myself. So I don't know.

the only thing close to hatewatching I think i do is when a new video on some antics of someone like ThatVeganTeacher pops up on my youtube I find myself pulled to watch because it's like "oh gosh what did she do NOW?) idk why but that lady is just.... grimly fascinating in a way and I low key hate myself for tuning in bc I feel so morally icky about it but also like WHAT the fuck is her deal??? I mean

personally I think the fact she's not getting certain nutrients from improper supplement taking or something. and like on on e hand she's clearly unwell... but also... you can't help but wonder if it's something she caused herself from her diet and lack of taking the right supplements or is there something else?? i just don't KNOW.

Also her being apparently weirdly homophobic makes no sense and feels so out of left field to me??? Especially with how much she seems to hate all religion? IDEK. It's like her weird worldview is almost like a puzzle my mind is trying to piece together

I hate read the first two After novels by Anna Todd because I’m fascinated in their beginnings as Harry Styles fanfiction.

Twilight. We watched with good amounts of alcohol every fucking movie. And I find this movies extremely boring.
I am still not sure why they hit this sweet spot of good movies for drinking and giggling.

(Anonymous) 2025-03-13 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I binged them out of morbid curiosity when they were all on Netflix, and you know what... those movies had damn good soundtracks.

The ones with Michael Sheen in them are almost worth watching for his performance alone.

No, but I guess I can understand why people do. A couple of weeks ago someone put on an episode of Married at First Sight, which I've never watched before because it sounds like something I would hate, and it is, but it still sparks a morbid fascination. I still don't understand how the show works, but I could still be watching it and saying "they're not a very nice person, are they going to get away with this shit?" if something were different, I don't know what, some kind of little social or brain chemistry reward.

A fanfic that had a rare ship I liked (A/B) but it was Dead Dove and had B/C as the main ship and A/B as the side ship destined to split. It was my fault, yes. I aknowledge that.

As for why... I guess I was trying to get into the other ship and see what the deal was. Instead ended up realizing the ship was NOT my cup of tea and developed a loathing for it. ||"orz I'm over it and now I'm indifferent to said ship but it pretty much cost me giving up on the fandom; I don't draw for it, I don't write fic for it and don't engage with it at all. Also the B/C ship is still popular while A/B (my fave ship) is dead in the water.

Honestly no. It sounds deeply unpleasant. I don't know WHY people would do that to themselves.

(Anonymous) 2025-03-13 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
I read "My Immortal" and was rather fascinated by it and its popularity.

Now that I'm older, I do hope the original author did have fun with its notoriety. It must have been hard to be dogpiled for their teenaged self insert Mary Sue fanfic.

Also, there was a period where my brothers and I got a kick from hate watching "The Room".

Kind of?

I've enjoyed a bunch of those "So Bad It's Good" movies, and when I watch Gossip Girl it's to see terrible people make each other suffer.

But when I actually, truly, hate something I *bury* it. BSG, Tru Blood, GoT, I hate how bad they got and I will never watch past where I have.

Not intentionally. Sometimes when a movie I watch turns out to be terrible, I will feel the need to watch to the bitter end because I want to know what happens despite the fact that the ending will probably make it worse. I really need to figure out how to just let it go and stop the movie when this happens. And sometimes I'm in the living room when someone else is watching something I don't like and it will catch my attention (not in a good way) and I end up watching to end of scene I find awful, exasperated with myself for not ignoring it.
