(Anonymous) 2025-03-15 01:05 am (UTC)(link)Hackman's wife contracted a rodent-borne virus and died suddenly on Feb 11. Hackman, 95, with a heart condition and advanced Alzheimer's, lived another week in the house without medical care, possibly not even aware his wife was dead in the house. Pacemaker records indicate he likely died of heart failure. They were found a week after that. The 2 surviving dogs likely had access to water. The crated one did not. No one checked in on the couple, so no one knew they had passed away.

(Anonymous) 2025-03-15 02:47 am (UTC)(link)Turns out, Arakawa probably died due to some kind of respiratory incident brought on by hantavirus. Hackman, who by then was suffering from advanced Alzheimer's, might not have known his wife was dead because as far as police can tell, he survived her by almost a week (but didn't call for help or contact anyone) before having a heart attack or something. One of their three dogs had been crated (I read somewhere because it was recovering from a recent surgery) and died, likely of dehydration/starvation. The other two were roaming the house/neighborhood and survived.
