Comment OP here and yeah, he is. I like enthusiastic puppy Raouls a bit more than strong stoic protective Raouls, but either can be fun to watch. And even asshole Raouls have their place, I just don't like when they condescend to Christine specifically.

But I tend to like a Christine Phantom Raoul trio that all play off each other well no matter how the actors play their individual parts.

It's been a couple years since I saw the show at all, and a long time since I saw it every couple years or so, but I've seen casts where I wish Christine had stayed with Erik, was glad she escaped with Raoul, hoped she'd whack both of them in the head with a candelabra and go be an awesome single diva or pair up with Meg, and even casts where I wondered why Raoul and the Phantom were fighting over such a sad scrap of nothing when they obviously needed to fuck it out instead.

And yeah, Patrick Wilson was the only good singer of the three leads, and made a very sweet kind Raoul, but a believable childhood friend to Emmy Rossum's Christine, not so much.
