Hey, I'm glad to hear this. I know you caught some negative responses as well as people defending you, sounds like you came to a healthy conclusion. To me it sounded like both of you were somewhat at fault in the dynamic (regardless of who did more things wrong) and the friendship as a whole wasn't in a good place.

I've definitely lost friends where we were trying to change each other or where we were unintentionally playing out an enablement/control dynamic, it's sad especially when everyone's intentions are good, but sometimes the best thing is to take a break from the friendship.

da but I've found this to be true. I've had to step away from friendships where it felt like others were trying to control my behavior, but I've also had to stop myself and making sure I wasn't being manipulative in my own way.

And of course, sometimes two people just don't mesh well and that's okay too.
