I think most are mad because they cast somebody who looks absolutely jack shit like the book's description as the character. You know, thin, sallow and pale, lank shoulder length greasy black hair, hooked nose.

It's like casting a blond as a Weasley or somebody brunette as a Malfoy.

With any luck this garbage will crash as hard as other properties which have undergone extremely questionable casting decisions, like that awful off-brand Discworld series.

All of this. Is an actor that actually matches the character description really too much to ask for? Especially when it introduces potential Unfortunate Implications. What next, will Hogwarts be a skyscraper in the middle of London?
And god, don't get me started on The Watch.

I mean, hair colour isn't a good example - it's easily changed. But he looks so far different from Snape, it's ridiculous

That makes no fucking sense, hair dye and wigs exist.

That would be good if more than half of the most vocal complainers weren't using their upset as an excuse to be racist. But you know this.
