It's honestly amazing how often this happens - that someone (or a group of people) manage to create a show that fans love, and yet be utterly clueless as to why and in the process, then mess it up royally delivering something nobody wanted.
This amazement often may be a result of less-obvious factors. Like existence of the Pointy Haired Bosses.
Consider good old TSR gimmick enforcement on the level of “we already use HERALDRY in this one setting”.
As John Rogers ended his explanation of The Core: «… This, by the way, is why screenwriting pays so well. They don't pay me to write. I'd write for free. They pay me NOT to punch people in the neck.»
