I said it in the og comment thread and I'll say it again: they're not meant to be good songs. they're plot devices, contrived and forced to make the season 6 plot go the way Whedon wanted. he needed to dramatically fuck up everyone's life in one go, why not a huge musical? except the poor guy with mustard on his suit, he was probably already having a bad time before then.
