I just think two ladies or two men kissing is hot, it's not that deep.

Also when it comes to shipping it's more about the vibe of the characters dynamic, so they might be friends and straight in canon but I think they'd be fun as a ship in fanon.

It's often pretty obvious when they're doing to because they happen to think 2 characters look cute together/like their dynamic vs when they're doing it because they think queer people are gross/sinful/inferior

I'd also argue a lot of characters considered "canonically straight" are actually assumed to be straight by default due to heteronormativity.

I've shipped canonically Gay characters in "het" ships, mostly because they had a fun dynamic, but agree that there is a completely different weight to it than shipping "canonically" straight characters. (mostly keep it to myself thought)

Never been a double standard in all of history that wasn't perfectly rational and just in the minds of those that held it. "Oh, but this is different because historically..." "No, you're not comparing apples to apples because biologically they are better at..." "The come from a different culture, so we aren't wrong to treat them like this..."

There's ALWAYS a "but this ISN'T the same, because..." argument behind every double standard or bigotry.

I think that’s probably fair when they’re considered as songs on their own.

There are only two or three I’ll relisten to and I don’t know if I’d even do that without knowing and caring about the characters and plot context.

Mostly, I think they were very good at doing character development.
