There's a bit in I believe season 6 of Malcolm in the middle where Dewey shows his parents photos Hal and Lois took of their kids and it's basically all the photos of the Francis, a few of Reese, a couple of Malcolm, and none of Dewey and Jamie.

As the third born of six, yes. The parents spend a lot of time on the first born, and then the more kids they have, the less invested in the individual hallmarks and doting on each child the parents become.
