The show literally makes it not his fault that Jin Zixuan dies because whatshisname is a second flautist fucking up WWX's control of Wen Ning. The show makes it so that demonic cultivation already existed so that WWX didn't have to invent it. IIRC, WWX doesn't even go on his rampage at the Nightless City where Jiang Yanli gets killed, she gets killed in the raid/equivalent at Burial Mounds.

The show does a lot of heavy lifting to ensure that nothing is Wei Wuxian's fault. Idc about guidao vs modao, it's about culpability.
