Re: Where do you get new recipes?

I'm a decent enough cook where if I want to make [insert dish here] I just search for "[insert dish here] recipe" and take a look at the top results. I can usually tell if someone's bullshitting or if the amounts/technique look reasonable. But a few reliable recipe sources are:

RecipeTin
Serious Eats
BudgetBytes (but with the caveat that the recipes are sometimes underseasoned imo)
Smitten Kitchen
Woks of Life

But honestly ,it depends on what you're looking for. Do NOT try to get recipes off TikTok.

Same. Either that or I Google a list of the ingredients I want to use up (which is normally why I'm looking for a recipe in the first place) and see what I get.

BudgetBytes is my go-to for inspiration, but yeah, I've found the recipes need some doctoring.

TikTok recipes lol. "Heat up jarred marinara and dump eggs in it." Ehhh no.

Maybe it's because I'm old, but it's wild to me that anyone would go to TikTok for recipes. (I only mentioned it because some people do.) Anything that goes viral is still suspect, IMO. It might not be crap, but I doubt it'll be much good, either. The audience is not discriminating enough to tell the difference between "I threw some junk in a pot and it was edible" and a recipe that's actually GOOD.

This is what I do. Or I have, like, a main ingredient (for example chicken breast) and look for recipes. But a lot of times I will just look up spice blends, because I keep a variety of spices on hand and you can cook the same damn thing and hit it with different spices and it's like a whole new thing (I've been cooking a lot of sheet pan meals because it's such easy cleanup).
