Arguments like 'but it's a family show so they wouldn't bring The Gay' really piss me off, because it implies that homosexual relationships between men are inherently more sexual than heterosexual ones, which is discriminating and very 20th century.

The people making that claim may not believe this, however, they may believe that the TV network do. And they would likely be right.

This. I don't seriously believe it shouldn't be in a family show but one glimpse at our tabloid press shows exactly what a small-minded section of society thinks of homosexuality being allowed on TV at all. Maybe the BBC can't be arsed at the moment with another 20 000 bangwagon jumpers with nothing better to do than complain about something they didn't even see.
