Srsly, why was I supposed to be happy about Dean and Castiel's side of the episode? All they did was piss off an already pissed off archangel and bring out Dean's asshat side with the brothel. That's it. Dean and Castiel = Failteam.

Haha, this is the first time I've heard someone be squicked by the ship being cross-species! Considering how all the angels seem to refer to us as monkeys of sorts, it makes me wonder if Castiel sleeping with Dean would be like if someone (human) was sleeping with a chimpanzee. That being said, we did come after the angels in creation, like an upgrade or improvement on the design, so the angels are a bit off in terms of their claims of superiority.

Hold on a second there, not taking that stance in that comparison. I only meant it in terms of the separation and differences between the two species. Analogies only work so far in a limited amount of ways, that one certainly wasn't intended to stretch that far.

Then you shouldn't have compared it to bestiality. Cross-species sex between two individuals capable of consent is not like bestiality, which your comparison clearly implied it was. Perhaps that wasn't the intent, but that's what came across.

Since we don't know of any non-human species with the capacity for consent in our universe, we'll have to resort to a fictional one for a more apt comparison. Let's say angel/human is like Star Trek's Vulcan/human, or Harry Potter's giant/human (Hagrid's parents), or BtVS's vampire/human... etc. In fact, there's a metric ton of fiction in which angels have romantic love/sexual desire for a human. Wings of Desire and City of Angels, anyone? In SPN itself, Castiel was willing to sleep with a hooker and did sleep with many women in 5x04 (and he wasn't fully human, only "pretty much" - he still had some angel senses left). Everyone needs to stop treating angel/human pairings like they're omg taboo. They're not.

I chose my example because it better elaborated on the angel's view of their superiority over humans (in relation to the mythology being used). I also chose that example because it references the "monkey" comments that the angels frequently used. It's also a more accessible analogy to people who may not have heard of the other fictional species you mentioned.

The main point was not addressing the consent issue or else I would have specifically mentioned consent in my comment. There also didn't seem to be an issue of consent in the original subject being discussed (beyond Jimmy) because the hypothetical participants are sentient and capable of consenting, so I couldn't see how my comment could have been interpreted to encompass that. Unfortunately, analogies have an effect of skewing what is being compared in order to present another way of understanding them, and I didn't anticipate that particular carry over. Anyways, my comment was supposed to address the species divide.

Also, maybe your last comment wasn't addressed to me, but personally I was not condemning the angel/human pairing like they were a taboo. It would depend on the finer details of what exactly angels are and the whole scenario is too hypothetical for me to really take a stance. They are, however, according to mythology a taboo. At least, enough of a taboo for God to punish the angels involved and flood the world to destroy the resulting offspring.

IF Jimmy is still there. Also, most Dean/Castiel fic deals with that issue, and I can't think of a single D/C shipper who'd be okay with it becoming canon without the writers dealing with it too.

All you've said are things I've thought at one point or another. Also add that Castiel is 9000+ years older. I was squicked by Angel and Spike corpse/Buffy enough thanks, SPN fandom.

I don't even think the energy/electricity thing even completely encompasses the weirdness. Apparently there's a part of an angel that is glowy, blue, and somewhere between gaseous and liquid that sprouts trees wherever it lands!

No. Never going to be his. Castiel is an angel, wants to keep being an angel, and was 'born' an angel. Doesn't matter if Jimmy dies, that meat suit is never going to belong to Castiel.

Jimmy+consent is one thing. Then there's that body had sex with Jimmy's wife and hugged his daughter and lived through things that don't belong to Castiel. Then that Castiel is a different species and that body isn't HIS even if we never heard of Jimmy. Fandom is forgetting what 'meat suit' implies.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Some people are arguing that what was resurrected was Castiel in a body that looks like Jimmy's. Are you arguing that because the body is associated with certain experiences that it will never truly belong to Castiel?

If so, it's very interesting philosophically. I don't agree though, I think clones or twins etc. shouldn't have to limit what they can or can't do just because they share the same body in terms of physical or genetic attributes. Sticky issue though, I mean, to an extent you have to ask if anyone owns their own genetic make-up

that aside, i find the issue of having to get accustomed to a physical existence/owning the body he's been left with very interesting to explore. i'm not seeing how the body's previous experiences would matter if the mind that experienced them is gone (unless there's the unlikely chance that he'd end up interacting with jimmy's family or anyone else who knew him). maybe you could explain?

Fair enough; that body will never be Castiel's in the way a human's body belongs to that human. I don't see the squick here, though. If Castiel is alone in his meat suit, and it's alive and he can perceive touch through it just as well as he clearly sees and hears using it, where is the gross?
