As someone who plays OW and Rivals, I'll only get into voice chat if I'm drunk. Then I have no problem being an asshole back to them.

I game with a group of friends so I'll happily voice chat with them, but strangers? Fucking no thank you, I game to have fun not to hear a bunch of 12 year old boys(or far too old to be acting like that) be misogynistic as shit as me because they're apparently still under some bizarre impression that women don't play video games. Or they like to be toxic for lulz, which nah, not dealing with that.

I get this completely, and I don't even VC. I no longer play Rivals, but I'd endure harassment anyway because they would figure out I'm a woman because my screen name is my real, feminine-coded name — and would throw vitrol at me (because I'm playing with my husband) that I have better things to do, that women are terrible at games (and then I'd show them up with a way better K/D/A +MVP at the end as a healer/tank), and it's detrimental to anyone's enjoyment dealing with shit like this.

The most important thing above all is protecting yourself and your mental.
