A guy in my class has been flirting with me, and I'm not closed off to the idea. He seems nice and smart. Except he scoffed when he saw my computer wallpaper was a close-up of Chappel Roan at the VMAs red carpet. I like her music and genuinely I just thought she looked really beautiful with the Roan of Arc makeup and the mismatched eyes. My computer wallpapers tend to be things I find pretty, from screenshots of Pixar or Ghibli films to fashion photoshoots.

Anyway I don't know if I want anything from this guy anymore. And I feel gross that my first instinct was to downplay my liking of her instead of just telling him yeah dude, I like her, deal with it. Is it worth being with someone who puts you on the defensive about something you enjoy? Even if it's just one thing that is admittedly pretty controversial?

This is hard to answer if only thing we know is that this person has scoffed at something you like.

Are they also fine with you scoffing at things they like? Does it become a joke and play-fighting and flirting if you shit on their faves too, or do they get upset if you do the same back to them and expect you to accept their taste as superior to yours?

The dynamic between those things is very different.

I game with a group of friends so I'll happily voice chat with them, but strangers? Fucking no thank you, I game to have fun not to hear a bunch of 12 year old boys(or far too old to be acting like that) be misogynistic as shit as me because they're apparently still under some bizarre impression that women don't play video games. Or they like to be toxic for lulz, which nah, not dealing with that.
