It's also ignoring the fact that the vast majority of people who aren't having kids aren't having kids because they don't want them. Offering them $5k is not going to make them change their mind on that.

Yep. I absolutely, positively 100% DO NOT want kids...I'm not being dramatic or hyperbolic or exaggerating at all when I say I would literally rather die than have a kid.

All the money in the entire world would not be enough for me so they can fuck right off with their $5000.

Yeah, I'm in my 40s and I know lots of other childfree women in their 40s and 50s and all of us chose not to have children because we didn't want them. That's it, that's the reason. We just never felt any desire to be parents, so we didn't. It's not any deeper than that, and we wouldn't change our mind if offered $5k.

I might have done it for $500k. It apparently takes about $250k to raise a child to adulthood, so half for them, half for me!

Then again, no. I still wouldn't want to.

In an ideal world where almost everything about my life, mental health, family, and social support was different/better/extant at all, I might've wanted kids. I'm even white (well, sallow pinkish) with blonde hair, light eyes, and big boobs.

I'm also fat, asexual, mentally ill, and my only living blood relatives are two uncles in their late 70s because everyone else died of cancer, drugs, or suicide, and if I'd been born in the 1950s I probably would've ended up institutionalized and sterilized, not hailed as the solution to a supposed dearth of white babies.
