I do get the sense, in a lot of LGBTQ+ spaces, that weebery is more tolerated than usual because there's this sense that since it's not the stereotypical cishet white man doing it, it's somehow better. Like it's somehow okay if it's white trans girls obsessing with anime mommies and hentai memes, or if it's gay boys using broken Japanese and comparing real life to BL.

As an Asian person, nah. It only makes me feel unwelcome in places that are supposedly welcoming and fetishization-free.

Being uncomfortable with anime mommies and hentai is a you problem and not comparable to the racism and homophobia in your example about the gay boys.

DA I think being uncomfortable with hentai in a non-NSFW space is pretty reasonable, actually.

You're nitpicking at the wrong details here, anon. But I understand that's probably because you want to avoid addressing the overall idea.

That sucks, I'm sorry.

I noticed as a white person who near-exclusively knows progressive people, white people who have a marginalized trait like being LGBT, disabled, poor, etc. seem to think that said marginalization "opts" them out of white privilege or being racist. It really, really, doesn't.

Eh, I've noticed not that at all. In fandom spaces, white people who are part of a marginalized group tend to be extra apologetic of their whiteness and even downplay their marginalized status. "I'm trans but I must make it clear that I'm white and I'm aware that I will never ever know the full extent of transphobia because I'm white uwu uwu uwu" and the like. And if they ever do call someone out on real transphobia (or whatever other -phobia affects whatever their marginalized status is) they're met with "Why do white people always have to find a way to be a victim somehow?"

AYRT, I mean, I've seen both. I consider that example of downplaying marginalization and constantly bringing up their race to be the opposite side of the same coin as "How am I white privileged/racist if I'm also [LGBT/disabled/poor/etc.]?" Both are benevolently racist and I don't see how either do any good for PoC. Just be mindful and give them space on their issues.
