I keep seeing certain people try to push Mastadon or Lemmy and I have tried both and they are just not as streamlined and easy to use. I would prefer a reddit style platform rather than twitter style (I never had a twitter account for a reason), but bluesky is def the most user friendly.

I forgot Lemmy even existed, I know of even less people who use it. That's just Mastodon in a Reddit-style forum format IIRC. I know some niche forums still exist since I'm on a few, but unfortunately individual microblogs/profiles are the main format new social medias are going to go for now :/ I miss forums and LJ/DW styled communities.

Considering how people are becoming increasingly exhausted with discord, I think forums might see a bit of a resurgence, especially considering how forums and all their information are available via web search and therefore much easier to preserve. most discords end up getting nuked either because of an argument between mods or a complete depletion in interaction from the members.

I like Discord for private communication, however it's complete dogshit for public communities and I've found the lasting groups I'm in now by sheer luck. The new CEO is either going to lead to (hopefully) a forum resurgence and people will move to a more secure platform for PMs. It's so frustrating how some forums still alive like Bulbagarden or Serenes Forest have more active Discords, when I just want a slower and more public format...
