Way too many people get dogs without realizing that you actually have to train a dog, they don't just magically pop into existence with perfect behavior. When my friend's dog was a puppy, people were always shocked when he told them how old the dog was because he actually paid to have it properly trained and so it didn't run around and bark and jump on everything, it was very calm and obedient and actually listened to commands. People didn't believe that a dog that age could be well-behaved because they're so used to dogs being out of control.
