Suki didn't change, because she wasn't around much to have that development, and because Bryke cleverly did not give her any issues that would have to be resolved. Basically, she was probably the closest to the general public's idea of "normal" in the entire cast. She just, well, had the ability to kick your ass while she was at it.

I'm sure if they had done another season, she would've gotten much more background and plot. But really, she was a supporting cast character, not a main. Lighten up, crazy fandom.

It's also, I suppose, a kind of trope. It's used to describe someone who has been there throughout most of the adventure, been privy to the changes, developments, and characterisation, but still remains in the background as a supportive role. It doesn't make the person BAD, just not in the SPOTLIGHT.

I'm not involved with the Avatar fandom, but the first reason I can come up with that anyone might hate her is she ends up with Sokka, who some fans might prefer to pair with other characters. And the little I do know about the fandom is that the fans tend to be hardcore about their ships.

But I always thought Suki was awesome because she blended femininity and butt-kicking so seamlessly.

And while usually I'm okay with that, she was also made out to have a much more massive part than she actually did. All she did was stand around awkwardly during dialogue. D:

I don't hate Suki, but having her so present in the finale was...awkward. I mean, I've got nothing against the girl, but I think the finale should have belonged to Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka, and Zuko. I saw some icon or something with a picture of Team Avatar sitting on Appa with the caption "we are more than just a team," and Suki was in it and it just felt...wrong somehow.
